At the front of the University Church the priest blesses each candidate with a hand on their head.
Hm...have you ever considered...
- Becoming Catholic?
- Learning more about what it means to be Catholic?
- Catholic Social Teaching?
- What should I do if I want to consider becoming Catholic?
Perhaps you were baptized in another Christian denomination. Maybe you were baptized and never received the sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults come into full communion with the Catholic Church. The RCIA will introduce you to the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church. This process of discovery and formation takes place each year at Fordham. The journey involves a period of preparation before receiving some or all of the Sacraments of Initiation, which include Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
Let's face it, life moves pretty fast at times. Many Catholic students arrive at Fordham never having received the sacrament of Confirmation. Each year students take the opportunity to learn more about their Catholic faith and prepare for Confirmation. The process of preparation is interesting, fun, and fairly straightforward. Fordham's Adult Confirmation Program is designed for practicing adult (18+) Catholics seeking the sacrament of Confirmation, who have been baptized, have received their first Holy Communion, and have been educated in the Catholic faith through Catholic Schools or Catholic religious education programs.
This 12-session program of adult faith formation combines presentations, group discussion, reflection, and prayer. The sessions cover Sacred Scripture and Tradition, the Creed, prayer and spirituality, the Church, Catholic social teaching, and meaning of the sacrament of Confirmation.
