Special Committee on Clergy Sexual Abuse

In the last year, the U.S.-based provinces of the Society of Jesus released names of Jesuits against whom there are credible allegations of sexual abuse committed against minors.

It is incumbent on institutions affected by the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church to acknowledge the profound harm inflicted on survivors and ensure policies and procedures are implemented to prevent future harm.

To that end, Fordham’s Board of Trustees has created an independent Special Committee of lay trustees – excluding Jesuit members of the Board and the Fordham University Administration – to review and investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against clergy or other individuals employed by or associated with the University at any time or Fordham Preparatory School prior to 1970, when Fordham Prep was separated from the University. The Special Committee is also overseeing the management of claims concerning such abuse and considering any appropriate preventative and remedial measures to address allegations of such abuse.
